In many ways, the Oktoberfest that is celebrated in Munich every year is just the continuation of an epically long wedding reception. In 1810, the future King of Bavaria, Ludwig, got married and invited the entire city of Munich to attend the celebration. It was such an epic party that they decided to do it again the next fall. Thus, the tradition of an annual October gathering - now known as Oktoberfest - was born.
